Description When everything is for sale, what's the value of love? Jesus does makeup for a troupe of drag performers in Havana but dreams of being a performer. When he finally gets his chance to be onstage, a stranger emerges from the crowd and punches him in the face. That stranger is his father, Angel, a former boxer who has been absent from his life for fifteen years. As father and son clash over their opposing expectations of each other, Viva becomes a love story as the men struggle to understand one another and become a family again.

The reasons I chose this film over others were its raw, unapologetic honesty, its dark, yet simple yet vibrant and bold beauty. From the very start, the atmosphere in this film is one of horror. We are transported into a world where the naive, and naive yet hopeful Jessica Meade is caught up in a world where nothing is what it seems, and where people who appear innocent to one person will turn out to be the worst possible people. As the film progresses, Jessica Meade finds that people are being manipulated, and her reality is distorted and twisted in this world. The fact that the film was made on a shoestring budget, is no fault of the actors, and the fact that it was based on a novel of the same name, is a fantastic feat. The actors are amazing, in particular the man who played Jessica Meade. His performance was so powerful and believable, that you never once knew that this man is a man, and never believed that he would truly believe that he was the father of his child. I have seen many films, and this is the first to have left me with such an impression of a film. I can only hope that other filmmakers follow in this great director's footsteps. My only criticism of this film, is that it did not allow me to fully appreciate its beauty and beauty of its story. I was never able to fully absorb the beauty and richness of the film, and thus, it could have been more complete and powerful. I would recommend this film to anyone who is looking for a disturbing film, and a beautiful and stunning film.
