It's no coincidence that the most-quoted lines from the film are the ones written by the aforementioned Claudia (she may well be the only one who can't think of any other words that fit). Each line is so forceful, so compelling, so convincingly out of place in the context of the story, that I think I'd like to think I'm not the only person who thought so. It's hard to imagine that a filmmaker this talented and talented in particular can make this film. The story is about a young man who wants to be a novelist, and the people around him, and the place he lives in. You can certainly make the case for his motivations, but it's hard to say what exactly he's trying to achieve. The film itself is full of moments of stunning, intricate detail. For example, the film opens with a rather ludicrous scene, but ends with a remarkable shot of the ocean in the background. The film also has some truly unforgettable characters. The protagonist, for example, is played by a star named Claudia. She is one of the best actors of our time, and this film is a great tribute to her. Her portrayal of a young woman with a dark past is a mesmerizing and very human performance. There are many others I could mention, but I'll stop here. This film is a triumph, and I can't wait to see more from director Joel and his collaborators. This is the kind of movie that will stick with you, and the kind that I will be watching again and again. If you're a fan of art, or of cinema, then you will love this film. If you're not, I don't think you'll be able to stop watching it.
