Director Carl Burnett has been exploring the history of rock and roll since his first collaboration with Jerry Wexler in 1971, with what became the infamous "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." "Rock and Roll Bands," in short, is an exhaustive and depressing examination of the bands that paved the way for rock and roll, and how their influence on the rest of society continues today. What makes it even more fascinating are the interviewees. Robert Christgau, Peter Frampton, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul McCartney all share their thoughts on the bands who have shaped rock and roll and rock music in general, as well as offering their own personal and sometimes sensitive reflections on the time when rock was born. Of course, it is the interviews with these great rock icons that really make the documentary more than just a collection of memories. The topics covered are so broad that it is impossible to try to cover them all, and this is the only real fault of the documentary. However, the interviews with the bands themselves and the people who have influenced them are particularly interesting, and Burnett wisely leaves out most of the technical aspects of their work, such as how they perform on stage and what they listen to. The highlights of the documentary are the songs they play, their appearances on radio and television, and some of the interviews with the band's managers. Even when it is presented in a fragmented fashion, the subject matter is still extremely compelling and this is a documentary that any music fan should watch.

Interesting documentary about Mike Krell, a talented country music singer who tragically lost his career due to drug addiction. He was born in the same year as Johnny Cash and later to appear on stage with his hero in front of a huge crowd of thousands. At that time, Country music was very popular and Krell was the one who single-handedly showed the industry and the country's fans what a great talent and musician he was. He was one of the biggest Country stars of his time, and a part of this documentary is in how he became a country star, how he overcame the influence of the famous Bob Dylan and how he became very popular and what he did with the success he had. We see him backstage and backstage as well as his early days in Nashville as a guitarist in the country band with Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson, as well as his rise as a star. The documentary is filmed in such a way that makes the documentary seem realistic, as if it were all too real and real-life. It covers his childhood and shows how his early days in Nashville gave him a personal connection with the people he was dealing with and how his later years in Nashville affected him. Also it gives us a personal insight of what it was like to be a Country singer and how it would be to be in a band that had Krell as the lead. It also shows the "Krell family" and how they react to the fame Krell had achieved. It also shows the difficulties that he had to go through, how his illness impacted him, how he had to put himself in danger and how he had to convince his record company to release his next record. Overall it is a great documentary that shows how Country music had a huge impact on the country and just how big the country music industry really was in this time period. It is very realistic, with lots of scenes showing the obstacles Krell had to overcome, and how his story and his body of work greatly shaped the culture that it was today. He's one of the most recognized and famous Country artists of all time, and he is still performing and singing today as one of the biggest stars. Very good documentary and a must see!
